Let’s get to know YOU!
Name: Erica Banda
Any nicknames? Lucy’s Mom, Leo’s Mom, or Lucy and Leo’s Mom
Hometown: Harlingen, Texas
Fitness Background: High School Drill Team, Gym Group Classes
Favorite non-gym way to be active: Keeping up with a 1st grader and preschooler.
Favorite hobby: Shoe Shopping... especially athletic shoes :)
One thing you wish you were better at: Taking and believing compliments.
Favorite health tip you actually use: Trying to get good sleep.
Team healthy replacements for indulgent food or just eat the real stuff? I’m team healthy replacements, but I do indulge with the real stuff from time to time.
Describe yourself in a color: Pink...feminine and fun
Biggest health and fitness goal: To join the 300lb deadlift club
Best music to workout to: Anything but kids music!
Now the nitty-gritty workout stuff…
When did you first try CrossFit and what made you want to try it? My husband joined Elevate many years ago. I saw him gain strength and confidence - enough to become an Elevate coach and even a national weightlifting competitor. He always tried to persuade me to join... It only took 8 years and some new shoe purchases to try it out.
What makes you stick with CrossFit? There’s nothing more addicting than finishing a WOD I really thought would be impossible.
Favorite movement: Strict Press and Wallballs
Least favorite movement/something that’s hard for you: Snatch (I’m still learning).
What gets you through tough workouts? The community!
What keeps you motivated? Seeing my kids watch me and knowing my hubby’s going to check the whiteboard to see my scores.
Proudest Elevate moment to date? Being one of the four people to make it all the way through the death by wall ball workout and then do another cardio workout a few hours later.
Hobbies outside of killing it at the gym: Laundry, Cleaning, and trying to calm my type A brain.
Changes you’ve seen from working out at Elevate: Strength gains!
What’s your favorite part of bringing your kid(s) to the gym? My daughter Lucy LOVES crossfit kids and Leo likes looking down from the child-watch window. I love them watching such great fitness in action.
One lesson that you’ve learned from your time at Elevate that you’ll take with you from here on out: I wasted so much time thinking I wasn’t strong or fit enough to join. I didn’t see myself as anything more than a postpartum mom still struggling with weight loss. Don’t let yourself be your main obstacle!
Why CrossFit Elevate? Because it’s for everyone and plateau proof.
