Fitness Background: I’ve always loved playing sports: baseball, soccer, basketball... I played varsity soccer in high school, and I love to run and am good at it. I didn’t start lifting weights until 2011. Before I started CrossFit, I’d go running or lift weights at the gym by myself on my lunch break at work.
Favorite non-gym way to be active: Saint Arnold 5K runs with my wife Kim Webb (followed by a craft beer or 6...)!
What’s one thing people would be surprised to find out about you? I once performed in a ballet... had to wear makeup and a leotard I think. And I liked it!
What’s your strongest personality trait? Optimism
Favorite music to lift to? Hip-Hop and 80’s… I love me some Kendrick Lamar.
What’s your favorite treat – healthy or not! Skyline Chili 3-way and chili dogs.
Now the nitty-gritty workout stuff…
When did you first try CrossFit and what made you want to try it? April 2018. My wife Kim joined CrossFit Elevate in July 2017 and it transformed her life completely. I wanted to lift weights and push myself to do things I would not do on my own.
What makes you stick with CrossFit? I don’t have to think about the workout I’m going to do on a certain day. I just show up and do what I’m told. I’ve always been a good follower.
Favorite movement: Strict Press
You have to pick one: rowing, assault bike, sleds, or running… which do you pick? I don’t pick running because I’m good at it and it’s not challenging. I’d go with rowing.
Least favorite movement/something that’s hard for you: Hang Power Clean
What gets you through tough workouts? My refusal to quit anything... and seeing other people in the group doing the workout. I also never want to disappoint Luke or the coaching staff.
What keeps you motivated? I strive for excellence in everything that I do. I want my family to be able to live their best life, and I want to provide them the same perfect life that my parents provided me growing up.
Proudest Elevate moment to date? Outlifting my wife… and that’s not a joke! Kim Webb is a savage and the best athlete in our family. Second place is Dave telling me my squat form had improved because he’s pretty strict when it comes to people’s form while lifting.
Hobbies outside of killing it at the gym: Reading, listening to podcasts, coaching my son’s soccer team, and watching sports.
Changes you’ve seen from working out at Elevate: My wife has told me my arms look big. Luke also commented on my “nice pecs”.
How has CrossFit helped you outside of the gym: It not only has increased my self-confidence, but also improved my eating and sleep. I don’t come to the gym unless I get at least 7 hours of sleep.
How do you balance working out with family life? I wake up early! I typically need to get my workout in before I go to the office so I can spend time at home with the family after I finish work in the evening.
What’s your favorite part of bringing your kid(s) to the gym? Setting an example for my son that exercise is very important to living a long, healthy life.
Why CrossFit Elevate? The coaching staff! From Luke to Dave, Liz, Angie, Emilia, Taylor, Kim (I apologize if I missed someone) - they are all outstanding! The people you work out with are very friendly and treat you like family.
