Let’s get to know YOU!
Name: April York
Any nicknames? Not really
Hometown: Luling, Lousiana
Fitness Background: I have been a Certified Group Fitness instructor for the last 8 years, 7 of which I taught bootcamp and Core classes. I have also run numerous half marathons, 10k’s and 5k’s.
Favorite non-gym way to be active: Walking my dog and occasionally running.
If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be? Seafood
One song to work out to, name it: Anything with a heavy beat, I usually tune it out anyway.
If you could have one super power, what would it be? The power to cook and clean with the snap of a finger (Editor’s note: and everyone said AMEN!)
Now the nitty-gritty workout stuff…
When did you first try CrossFit/Bootcamp and what made you want to try it? About a year ago I joined Elevate. I had taken about a 2-year break from working out for myself due to foot surgery. I was looking for a place to work out that would motivate me and make me want to come back day after day. I already had friends that worked out here and they only had good things to say so I decided to try it out and joined.
What makes you stick with CrossFit/Bootcamp? Mostly the people and maybe the fun and challenging workouts.
You bounce back and forth between both CrossFit and Bootcamp, what do you love - and hate to love - about each: I love the variety of the different workouts and that I can definitely tell I am getting stronger. What I hate to love about each are the hard workouts.
Favorite movement: Deadlifts and Cleans
What gets you through tough workouts? Liz’s encouragement and working out alongside the other ladies and their constant motivation.
What keeps you motivated? Seeing the results and getting stronger and better at different movements and lifts.
Proudest Elevate moment to date? Being able to do an overhead squat.
Least favorite movement/something that’s hard for you: Hands down, Burpees. I hate burpees! Always have, always will.
Hobbies outside of killing it at the gym: Reading, watching tv, nights out with friends, walks with my dog. I am kind of boring.
Changes you’ve seen from working out at Elevate: I am definitely getting stronger.
How has CrossFit helped you outside of the gym: I have a lot more energy to get through my days (no more napping).
How do you balance working out with family life? It’s not really hard for me because my kids are in school when I work out and I plan my errands around my workout time.
Why CrossFit Elevate? The coaches and the people. Everyone is so welcoming and motivating. I really feel comfortable working out here.
