Profession: Chaos Coordinator for The Leverence House
Fitness Background: I started running after my oldest was born. After that I tried about any and all workout programs you could think of for the next few years (TRX, HIT, Spinning, Strength Training) … I like to mix it up.
Favorite non-gym way to be active: Anything outside. Hiking, bike riding, running, taking the kids to the park, etc.
What’s one thing people would be surprised to find out about you? Either that I’m a former kindergarten teacher or that I used to be 100 pounds heavier than I am now.
What’s your strongest personality trait? I’m super organized, to the point where I have a color-coded family calendar in our kitchen.
Now the nitty-gritty workout stuff…
When did you first try CrossFit and what made you want to try it? 9/11/17, which is also the day I learned about “Hero WODs” and I almost didn’t go back. Kevin & I were looking for something new to try and not planning my own workouts really appealed to me.
What makes you stick with CrossFit? That it’s always different and it forces me to work on weaknesses that I normally wouldn’t work on. I’m always trying to do a little bit better than the last time I worked out.
Favorite movement: Wall balls or any kind of squat.
Least favorite movement/something that’s hard for you: TTB, which will surprise exactly no one.
What gets you through tough workouts? Music and just focusing on powering through to the end.
What keeps you motivated? I have three girls (9, 7, & 5) and I want to be a good role model to them.
Proudest Elevate moment to date? Finally nailing pullups!
Hobbies outside of killing it at the gym: Reading, crafting, cooking, and general bad-assery.
Changes you’ve seen from working out at Elevate: All my lifts have increased & I’m slowly making improvements on bar work.
How has CrossFit helped you outside of the gym: Starting my day at the gym sets me up for success because it is my time to blow off stress & focus on myself.
How do you balance working out with family life? We (Kevin & I) just make it a family affair. The girls regularly come to the gym and our oldest is in CF Kids. They’ve always had exercise integrated into their lives, so they don’t know any different.
If applicable) What’s your favorite part of bringing your kid(s) to the gym? That they get to see so many people working on being healthier and supporting each other. I think it’s especially important as girls that they see a lot of strong, confident women on a regular basis.
