Let’s start with the easy stuff...
Name: Juliann Pelton
Hometown: Whittier, CA
Profession: Personal assistant to Rob and slave to our 4 kids
Fitness Background: Swimming and Pole Vaulting in high school, then bopping around different bootcamps, cycling and BodyPump classes in more recent years. There was a half marathon, multiple 10ks and some triathlons scattered in there.
Now onto the CrossFit stuff...
When did you first try CrossFit & what made you want to try it? After enjoying a few different bootcamps, I decided to bite the bullet and jump on the bandwagon.
What was your first CrossFit workout? There were push-ups, running and bear crawls. It was delightfully painful.
What made you stick with CrossFit? I find it challenging enough that it keeps me coming back and wanting to get better. Like when I suck at handstand push-ups, I want to do them all the time so I can be awesome at them.
Favorite WOD: Fight Gone Bad. I LOVE trying to out do myself.
Least favorite WOD: Anything that involves running.
Favorite movement: Squats and Overhead Squats
Least favorite movement/something that’s hard for you: Power cleans are hard for me mentally. I'm always afraid the bar is going to hit me in the neck or knock me over.
What gets you through tough workouts? Being shamed by the rest of the 5am crew... just kidding! If I don't work hard, I'll regret it for the rest if the day.
What keeps you motivated? I have a long list of things that keep me motivated. But up towards the top is this: if I work hard, I feel good about myself… if I feel good about myself, I'm happy… if I'm happy, my husband and kids are happy. So if I lay in bed at 4:30am and refuse to workout, my whole family suffers.
Proudest CrossFit moment to date? Putting my husband (185#) on my shoulders in my bathroom at 11pm and doing a squat. Or squatting 205#.
Hobbies outside of CrossFit: Right now I'm the VP of the PTA at my kids' school, which doesn't leave a whole lot of time for hobbies. But I LOVE to create in the kitchen. I went to the Pillsbury Bake-Off in 2013 and hope to have more time to bake and create in the future.
Changes you’ve seen because of CrossFit: While I've only lost 8 or so pounds since starting at Elevate last summer, my body looks very different. I'd say the biggest change can't be seen. CrossFit is hard! And when I can get through a hard workout, I can handle anything.
How has CrossFit helped you outside of the gym? Carrying around 30 pounds of wiggly, thrashing toddler has gotten a whole lot easier.
How do you balance working out with family life? 5am baby! I have no excuse to miss. Although by 10am I'm going to die if I don't caffeinate.
What’s your favorite part of bringing your kid(s) to the gym? I LOVE when my kids workout with me and are sore and tired afterwards. They are more sympathetic when I ask them to take something upstairs for me.
Why CrossFit Elevate? Because that's where the cool people are.
